In chemical and petro-chemical plants there are various storage vessels for raw materials and for finished products. When some tanks require to be cleaned, there can be a risk of volatiles and other vapours escaping from the tank and causing unacceptable emissions.

DESIGN SOLUTION
In the Asia Pacific example considered here, the client had tanks containing Butanol, which needed a scrubber system to be used during the cleaning operations. A BFP49 unit made in FRP with Polypropylene internals with a capacity of 2,500 m3/hr was suitable, and indeed was able to be mounted on a mobile unit to move from tank to tank, as needed. (See images below).
The Butanol vapours & air are drawn into the BFP Becoflex rotary brush scrubber by the brush acting as the fan impeller. The brush is irrigated with an NaOH solution which removes any insoluble solids coming out of the tank, and then is followed by a bed of random packing, also fed counter currently with NaOH.
The guaranteed emissions – below 10 mg/m3 – are achieved.
