DETERGENT SULPHONATION / BEFORE THE SULPHONATION REACTOR

PROCESS INFORMATION

SO3 gas is used in a sulphonation reaction process. Fibre filters which are installed before the sulphonation reactor remove very fine oleum mists. The SO3 gas (6-7%) can contain up to 7,000 mg/m³ of oleum mists, and due to the highly exothermic reaction, it is normal to trace heat and insulate the vessel to prevent oleum freezing.

PROBLEMS TO SOLVE

Removal of very fine oleum mists which, if they were not removed, would cause an immediate reaction and produce water.

DESIGN SOLUTION

High Efficiency, Brownian Diffusion ‘Becofil’ Candle Filters, hanging type HT or standing type F, with TGW15 or B14W Glass Fibre elements and 316L Stainless Steel structure.
